Critical

Paediatric critical care incorporates a range of locations and specialties, primarily based in emergency and intensive care across rural, regional and metropolitan settings. Children within critical care are frequently unstable, with either single or multiple organ dysfunction.

They are also at high risk for healthcare-associated complications, including infections and nutritional deficits. Paediatric critical care nurses play a vital role within the critical care team, advocating for patients and their families across complex situations.

Current critical care key interests within PATTERN include:

  • Mechanical ventilation
  • Vascular Access
  • Sepsis
  • Suctioning
  • Disaster preparedness
  • Recovery after critical illness
